So, when will KHTML merge all the WebCore changes? | www.kdedevelopers.org

So, when will KHTML merge all the WebCore changes? | www.kdedevelopers.org: "Code in Safari is hugely inconsistent and changes are always interdependent. There's basically no way of merging in one change without bringing a whole bunch of others in. And you know what? Don't even tell me about merging stuff like render_canvasimage.[h,cpp]. It outright uses OS X api's. We'll never be able to merge that in - someone will have to implement it. And what's going to happen when someone does? Some jackass on /. or some other equally stupid site will be praising Apple."

For those of you wondering why it takes so long to merge Apples changes for Safari into konqueror, please go read that post above.

Linus torvalds on git

Here is a presentation video of Linus Torvalds talk on git:

First Linux, now git

Git is a relatively mild British slang term, used to denote a silly, incompetent, stupid, annoying, childish or senile elderly person. Linus Torvalds said: “I’m an egotistical bastard, and I name all my projects after myself. First Linux, now git”. Here is presentation of Linus Torvalds on git, the source control management system he created in 2005.

Draft

I just found draft.blogger.com, where you can try out beta features. Why use draft instead of beta? The draft editor seems to have a new icon, which says "Add Video". Haven't tried it yet.

Safari open source?!?

» Jobs does Windows with open source | Open Source | ZDNet.com: "Now Jobs has combined the two trends by releasing a Windows version of his Safari browser, as open source."

Safari is open source?!? Since when. I knew the safari engine was open source, but not the browser!

If you think I'm nitpicking consider this. The Safari engine just draws whatever (usually HTML) that you tell the browser to download. But the browser is a lot more. Such as the windows around the engine, bookmark handling and so forth. For instance, if their is a bug in the Proxy settings, I can't just download the code for the Safari browser and fix the bug. Unless I am missing something here (in which case please leave a comment), Safari is not open source!

hak5live.org

They are doing a new episode of hak5live.org! I was watching their setcam, and fell asleep and not really sure how much of it I missed. But its live right now if you want to watch.

The ustream stream isn't working well for me, but the stickam feed is working fine.
Maybe they should shut down their setcam feed cause they have two ustream.tv feeds going.

Safari for windows update

I've installed the Safari 3.0.1 update that was released today, but the browser still crashes when the proxy server asks for credentials.

webkit

The engine for the safari web browser is called webkit, and their are nightly builds for webkit. I am hoping that perhaps the issue with Proxies on safari might be solved by the nightly builds of webkit. We'll have to wait and see.

Its wishful thinking mostly, the engine is more concerned with how websites are rendered rather than handling proxies, I would think.
clipped from webkit.org

The merge of the Apple Windows WebKit port has finished. We have updated the build instructions on the web site. Those developers interested in building the source should start here. We have also updated our nightly builds web site to include nightlies for both OS X and Windows. You can download a nightly here. Bugzilla is also open for business, so start reporting those WebKit bugs!

Safari for Windows

I downloaded and installed Safari 3 Beta and installation went well. I couldn't test any further though, since proxy settings box is grayed out. I guess the beta doesn't work with proxies.

I'll have to test at home later.

Update: Not really sure what is up with the proxies. I came home, and safari wouldn't connect to the net. I started up Internet Explorer, and turned the proxy settings of, and safari began working. I'll have to try again once I am behind a web proxy and see if Safari on Windows is using Internet Explorers proxy settings.

The important thing to note might be that Safari on Windows now gives web developers the webkit engine on Windows which had been missing previously. Now you have all the major engines, IE engine, Gecko, Opera Engine and webkit/khtml on Windows. Not really sure if this is good, since it gives a web developer less reason to move of Windows!

More Updates: The browser seems to be using Internet Explorers proxy settings. However, when behind a web proxy that requires a username and password, the browser crashes after you enter the username and password. The dialog mentions keychain, perhaps it has something to do with keychains non-existence on windows.

Stats

Robert shared his stats for Google Reader, and I thought I'd share mine.

Google Reader tells me: "From your 222 subscriptions, over the last 30 days you read 11,351 items, starred 15 items, and shared 13 items".

Not sharing as much as Robert. Here is a list of sites I shared from:

1. Lifehacker

2. reddit.com: programming - what's new online

3. Ajaxian

4. Coding In Paradise

5. Direct2Dell

6. Mark Shuttleworth

7. nixCraft

8. ongoing

9. Robert's shared items in Google Reader

10. Unix-Tutorials.com - Latest tutorials

Though I can justify the low sharing (13 items). Some articles I blog about, so they don't get shared, and others get added to del.icio.us/awasim, which show up on the side in the Recent Links section. I might add items to del.icio.us (rather than share them) if I want to search for the item later.
